If you have ever felt like you are on a wild ride, when academic workload and social activities are imminent, then you are welcomed to ‘the Second Semester’. This semester is often considered a trap by many students, as the atmosphere is mostly occupied by socials, events and latent activities blurring the manifest function of most students in school, the trap is explicitly noticed when the exams are around the corner, many students are usually overwhelmed, usually asking the question ” when did we even start this semester ” omoooo this semester na trap” is usually the favourite words of some students much more than the amount of affectionate words said to their partners.
The Second Semester filled with spontaneous events. After a whole session of academic workload, exams usually backed with “God abeg” and a CGPA begging for mercy in anticipation of the next Book of life, when the recipient of “take home to mama” award may be sent home to mama. After all these, there’s a need to relieve students of the tension and strength of academic workload through social events. Notably of these events is the dinner usually anticipated by students as an avenue to show elegance.
On Tuesday, 25th of February, 2024, the dinner was organised at ISI MultiPurpose Hall. International school ibadan. After series of PRs, planning and dedication from the organisers. The dinner was organised as a joint dinner by the department under the faculty of the Social Sciences excluding the map dealers. The dinner was themed “Enhante” a masked dinner” as no mask was specified, using a nose mask to the venue isn’t bad. “Enchante” commenced in the evening and was hosted by the popular master of ceremony “mc Peteru”. Introduction of Special Guests, pageantry winners was done in the beginning. Followed by group performance of the contestants, games, display of talents, distribution of awards and other series of activities to ensure attendees have fun while trying to foster inclusively among the different departments.
Interviews was conducted by POSSPRESS correspondent with some attendees of the dinner to gather their remarks as regards the recently organised dinner “Enchante”
According to Akande Pelumi PKA Larhor, a 400 level student of Political Science: he expressed ‘The pageantry was topnotch. The contestants all outdid themselves.
The food shared was also okay. We all know things are expensive at the moment. Also, the dessert was okay. I had fun.’
A student who pleaded anonymity remarked ‘If I’m being honest it really did. I’m used to the events in this school being underwhelming, but enchanté went really well and was worth every penny.’
Dolapo, a 400 level student of Psychology: ‘Yes it did, particularly with the turn out. I was expecting a good number of turn out, the meal, music. And yes all of these was exceeded.’
Another Anonymous gave his views “It was actually very interesting all thanks to the organizing committee and most importantly to Peteru… His vibe really took the dinner to its peak. The performance of the various contestants for The Mr and Mrs Fatsssa too was top notch.’
Another student who also insisted anonymity commented “‘It was below my expectations.It wasn’t worth the hype at all.
Firstly I was expecting a real turn up at least from the staylites if not the freshers. Also the events apart from the Mr and Miss Fatsssa it would have been so boring.
But the after party was lit sha, so I will rate it 7/10.’
Olayinka Ayomide Anne, a 300 level student of Political Science: ‘First of all, the turn out was impressive. That proved that they did well with publicity. Then the setting was nice. Lighting,seat arrangements and decorations suited the evening. Then I noticed there was no disparity and segregation based on department as the social directors informed up. Everyone related with one another as friends, not based on departments or levels. Normally, in FATSSSA, there’s this sense of association bases on departments at events. But for once, that feeling wasn’t there. People across the different departments mingled well. I took pictures with people from sociology and psychology, that on a normal day, I don’t talk to. I sat on the same table with people from sociology and we had interesting conversations.’
Drawing close, the curtains of Enchanté, a question lingers on the minds of many, will there continue to be a joint dinner in the faculty the upcoming year or will the departments choose to have its own exclusive gatherings?
