History was made at Jaw War 2025: Rise of Legends as the Faculty of the Social Sciences (FATSSSA) clinched the JawWar faculty title, defeating the Faculty of Law in the final. The final, held on Wednesday, February 26, at the International Conference Center, University of Ibadan, saw FATSSSA emerge victorious with a score of 80.87 to 78.87—securing their second win over Law in this year’s competition.
Having already bested Law in an earlier round, FATSSSA once again proved superior in the finale. Represented by Adebayo Abdulrahman and Favour Ola-Stephen, they argued in favor of Africa investing in blockchain technology, delivering compelling points that outmatched their opponents, Chineke Ugochukwu and Akinlawon Goodluck of Law.
The night also featured the fiercely contested hall round, where Lord Tedder Hall triumphed over Queen Idia Hall in a debate on whether Afrobeats is a true representation of African culture. This win extended the hall’s record of most jaw war thorpies.Meanwhile, in the Inter-Varsity Oratory Contest, the University of Ibadan claimed first place, with LAUTECH and Lead City University finishing second and third, respectively.
Several outstanding speakers from FATSSSA were recognized for their performances. Favour Ola-Stephen (Social Sciences/Idia) won Overall Best Speaker and shared the Overall Best Speech award with Sakeenah Kareem (Arts). Yahya Dorcas (Social Sciences/Idia) was named Most Outstanding Speaker, while Akande Omobobola James (Social Sciences/Tedder) took home the Overall Best Male Speaker and Overall Best Finalist awards.
Adding to the historic night, Akande Omobobola James became the first-ever double-constituency President to lead both FATSSSA and Lord Tedder Hall to victory in the same year, further cementing his name in Jaw War history.
