The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UISU) has announced the final approval for the use of cooking gas by students in the halls of residence. The announcement was contained in an official statement released by the Union on the UI SU WhatsApp channel at exactly 3:16pm on Sunday, 1st November, 2026, and signed by the Union President, Temidayo S. Adeboye, and the General Secretary, Joshua O. Shontan.
According to the statement, the approval takes effect from the next academic session.
The Union said the approval followed several administrative engagements, discussions and commitments with the University Management.
It added that considerable attention was given to ensuring that the necessary safety measures are put in place, noting that this was one of the major activities that delayed the time taken to reach a final decision.
The Union also announced that the approval comes with a condition: students must discontinue the use of cooking stoves in the halls of residence.
It explained that the simultaneous use of cooking stoves and cooking gas may pose significant safety risks.
The Union therefore urged all students to take note of the development and make necessary preparations ahead of the next academic session.
It appreciated the University Management for its cooperation and the students for their patience.
