The National Association of Political Science Students (NAPSS), University of Ibadan chapter, has announced the appointment of Professor David Uchenna Enweremadu as the new Head of the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan.
The announcement was contained in a statement dated August 16, 2026, and signed by the NAPSS President, Mr Oladigbo Victor Inioluwa, and General Secretary, Mr Sunday Oluwanifesimi Victor.
According to official reports, Dr. Oluwaseun Kugbayi has also been appointed Staff Adviser and Undergraduate Coordinator of the department.
The leadership changes, according to NAPSS, are expected to strengthen academic administration and improve engagement between the department and its undergraduate students.
Following the appointments, the NAPSS Executive Council paid a courtesy visit to Professor Enweremadu on August 9, where issues concerning the academic development and welfare of Political Science students were reportedly discussed.
During the meeting, Professor Enweremadu was quoted by NAPSS as emphasising that the Department of Political Science belongs not only to its staff and management but also to its students. He reportedly described the department as a shared pride and responsibility and encouraged students to contribute actively to its growth, progress and reputation. The association said it was encouraged by the new HOD’s commitment to fostering a cordial and productive relationship between the department and its students.
Professor Enweremadu is a scholar in the Department of Political Science at the University of Ibadan, with research interests including public policy, public administration, politics and development in Africa, and anti-corruption and public-sector reform. University of Ibadan academic and repository records also identify him as a scholar in the department.
Dr. Kugbayi, who is also a lecturer in the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan, is specialised with research interests centred on public policy.
The Department of Political Science at the University of Ibadan runs undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes, alongside specialised programmes in areas such as election administration and strategic studies.
NAPSS congratulated both appointees and expressed its readiness to collaborate with the department’s leadership in advancing academic excellence and student welfare.
The appointments mark a new phase in the administration of the department, with students now looking to the new leadership for improved academic coordination, stronger student engagement and continued development of the department.
