Upholding the traditions of the Department, today, 2nd of July, 2024. The National Association of Political Science Students’ body also known as NAPSS, held its annual orientation programme for the newly admitted students of the department. The programme was organised by the Department’s Executive Council with the consent of the Department’s management. To make the event a success, the Executive Council led by, Adewumi Samuel invited other organs of the association. The Press was represented by the Managing Editor, Miss. Adekola Rihanat, the Senate by the Senate President, Sen. Sunday Noah and the Deputy, Sen. President, Miss.Olayinka Anne while the LnD was represented by their PRO, Mr. Arogundade Louis.
The programme was held in lecture room 019 of the faculty and started at 1:17 pm. The 100lv students of the Department came in their numbers to grace the event which is primarily organized for their benefit. The programme was graced with the presence of Prof. Remi Aiyede, Dr Idowu Johnson, Dr Godwin and Dr Idachaba. from the Department who were present to admonish the new students and officially welcome them to the Department.
The programme started with the welcome address which was delivered by the Vice President of the association, Miss Adeola. She explained that the essence of the orientation was to socialize the newly admitted students to the traditions of the Depa
Addressing th sea of fresh heads, Dr Godwin congratulated them and considered them lucky to be admitted to the University of Ibadan. He gave a brief speech on vital pieces of information about the Department and the faculty. Following DR. Godwin’s speech, the acting HOD of the Department, Prof. Remi Aiyede. explained the processes of admission into the university, he spoke on the course registration of students and the availability of the graduate coordinator to sort all issues relating to their course registrations. He went further to explain that there are level coordinators for each level of the Department and all 100-level issues relating to their timetables, plight, etc, would be taken care of by the level coordinator, DR. Idowu Johnson and tabled before the HOD of the department.
DR. Johnson gave a speech on examination-related matters to the students, he spoke on different themes, which include: preparation, self-discovery, time consciousness, reading capacity, ability to predict the lecturer, competition, backgrounds and orientation of students, and the importance of reading instructions.
The importance of engaging in social activities was explained to the students by the Vice President. She highlighted Opportunities available for self-development to the fresh intakes. Similarly, Prof. Aiyede encouraged the freshers to join any of the organs in the association, volunteer and participate in different activities of the association and Department. He admonished them to look beyond the religious communities and fellowships and engage in the activities of civil societies. He recommended POSSPRESS as it develops their vocabulary and writing skills.
The Executive President gave his last address to the Freshers by walking them through the list of programs his administration intends to execute during the session.
Lastly, the different organs present took their turns to explain the recruitment of new members and the importance of being a member. Questions were asked and answers were duly provided for the questions, and the programme came to an end.
