As the second semester draws to a close, the imminent end of tenures across the University of Ibadan – from the Students’ Union to faculties, departments, halls, and organisations beckons. In this light, the Independent FATSSSA Electoral Commission (IFEC), the electoral body of the Faculty of the Social Sciences, has officially announced the lifting of the ban on all electoral activities today, September 29, 2025.
The announcement, contained in a flier e-signed by Fejiro Opubor, the Returning Officer, and Akinola Aina, the General Secretary, has since been widely circulated across departmental platforms and WhatsApp statuses of executives and politically inclined members of the faculty.
Notably, the decision to lift the ban had earlier been ratified at the third sitting of the Faculty House of Representatives (FHR) held on September 26, 2025. With this development, the semester is expected to get busier as aspirants begin to roll out their declarations of intent. Press nights and manifesto presentations will soon follow, and campaign efforts across the faculty are set to intensify.
