POS POLITICOS FC maintained their perfect start to the Survival’s Cup with a commanding 2–0 victory over Sociology/Psychology in the much-anticipated FATSSSA Derby on Thursday afternoon.
The exciting encounter, which was played at the SUB Pitch, lived up to its billing as a fiercely contested Faculty of Social Sciences affair, with both sides displaying considerable intensity, pace and determination throughout the game.
After a closely fought opening spell, POLITICOS FC broke the deadlock shortly before half-time. Papi produced a moment of individual brilliance, curling a superb freekick beyond the reach of the goalkeeper to give POLITICOS FC a 1–0 advantage at the interval.
The opponent returned for the second half with intensity, seeking an equaliser and applying pressure on the POLITICOS defence. However, POLITICOS FC remained disciplined and continued to threaten whenever opportunities presented themselves.
Their resilience was rewarded when Captain Solomon delivered a precise pass into the path of Commissioner, who finished the move decisively to extend the lead to 2–0.
The second goal proved decisive as POLITICOS FC managed the remainder of the contest effectively, withstanding their opponents’ attempts to reduce the deficit and seeing out the match without conceding.
The victory gives POLITICOS FC six points from two matches, placing them top of Group F with a perfect winning record.
Having already recorded a victory over Biochemistry in their opening fixture, POLITICOS FC have now established themselves as early contenders in the group, while their latest derby triumph further strengthens their position heading into the next stage of the competition.
