The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UISU) has released an official update regarding the highly anticipated integration of cooking gas across students’ halls of residence.
In an official memorandum dated May 28, 2026, and signed by Union President Temidayo S. Adeboye and General Secretary Joshua O. Shontan, the student leadership addressed concerns among students over the delay in the implementation of the policy.
The document confirmed that although the initial two-week timeline agreed upon with the University Management on May 6, 2026, has elapsed, considerable progress has been made behind the scenes to ensure a safe rollout.
According to the Union, the recent silence surrounding the policy was due to “intensive, ongoing negotiations” and bureaucratic processes aimed at ensuring a safe and sustainable transition.
The Union disclosed that on Saturday, May 23, 2026, members of the executive council conducted a comprehensive final inspection of all undergraduate hostels to assess facility readiness and reconcile their observations with an official report earlier submitted by the Student Affairs Office.
The memorandum further stated that the policy is currently in the final stages of the university’s approval process, adding that the Union leadership is actively engaging relevant authorities to secure the immediate release of a final and binding memorandum.
Acknowledging the patience and understanding of students, the Union executives reiterated their commitment to the successful implementation of the policy, assuring that the operational rollout would be “swift and seamless” once official approval is granted.
