Many would wonder what boogie man is being referred to. Well, he’s someone you quite well, as long as you’re a Uite. He comes in various forms palatable to each group of students. However, there is one sole goal, which he enjoys achieving, in-fact he achieves it sleekly without anyone paying attention as he does his thing. Do you know him yet? Here’s another clue for you! His goal is always to steal your time away from you, with you knowing it of course. Now isn’t that paradoxical… probably even, an expensive joke for anyone to overlook.
Can hear streams of questions gathering in your head. How is this possible? In what way is my time stolen? I don’t agree such an entity exists, There’s nothing wrong with my time… These are all sensible statements, for a rational human. Regardless, humans also students in this, case can be quite oblivious to the visible occurrences happening to them daily. Why? Let’s call it another charm of the boogie man. He spreads his charm in the various forms he manifests to students. For some, he could appear as the social belle screaming for your attention and presence. He invites you to every social event, telling you, that you only live once therefore you must live it to the fullest. Guess what? You believe him and you live it up in every party! Unknowing to you, that your available time is reducing.
Is that all his charm is about? You wish! For those who identify as a hardened introvert, the noise and party don’t move them a bit. They believe they are in control of their time and prefer staying in, especially in their beds. Now that’s even an easy position for one to be conquered, don’t you think? Well here is some news for you. The boogie man comes in a pretext of you keeping streaks with your favourite books, anime, podcasts, crime series, kdrama series or any other genre you click with. He steals your time as you engross yourselves with that satisfying act you later call a hobby.
Lastly, here is another secret charm of the boogie man. This is for the ever-conscious and political stakeholders who are also students. They go round about the school, with an astounding energy and deep commitment to their political craft. They give themselves to service to the school in general, including those requested and those that were not. These are potential leaders, who care when others look away, those who choose to be bold and speak when others shy away. These are positively productive people, yet the boogie man doesn’t spare them. He awaits in a corner, waiting for them to be burnt out and carried away by the political brouhaha. As expected, they forget to be weary of the boogie man and most times fall prey.
The aftermath of all the time stolen hence accounts for those common complaints students make such as; When did we resume again sef ? Why are we in revision week already? Omo I don’t think I can cover o; There’s no time to prepare for my exams; Why is the academic calendar so short?
Well, those comments are the goal of the boogie man and he applauds himself for a job well done at the end of each semester. Why not? cos he’s played you again!
Upon the secrets revealed to you, you might still not understand what they actually mean. Too bad, because you’ll fall prey to the boogie man again. But for those who understand, beware of him, because he’s here again and he’s not planning to spare anyone.
