University of Ibadan Matriculates 4,430 New Students

The University of Ibadan on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, matriculated 4,430 fresh students at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The ceremony which formally began with the entrance of the university’s principal officers and the recitation of the national and university anthems.The event was formally opened by the Registrar of the university, Ganiyu Oke Saliu.

In his matriculation address delivered virtually, the Vice-Chancellor, Kayode Adebowale, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), P. O. Olapegba, congratulated the newly admitted students and urged them to remain focused throughout their academic journey.

He noted that the university received more than 46,000 applications during the admission process but admitted only 4,430 candidates through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry routes.

The ceremony also featured a matriculation lecture delivered by Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Specialist, Olusola Ayoola, who encouraged the students to approach their studies with dedication and make productive use of modern technological tools in their learning.

The ceremony ended with the administration of the matriculation oath and concluded at 10:44 a.m.
