Following the inauguration of new executives for the 2025/2026 academic session, POSSPRESS spoke with the Vice President of the Nigerian Association of Political Science Students (NAPSS), about her plans for the department and what students should expect from the new administration.
POSS PRESS: Good evening, please introduce yourself.
RAMADIYAT: I’m Ogubere Ramadiyat Auohiza, a 300l Student of the Department of Political Science.
POSS PRESS: This interview is aimed at acquainting you with NAPSSSITES, especially the freshers. To begin, kindly give us a brief summary of your plans.
RAMADIYAT: In my manifesto, I highlighted a number of plans for the department, such as continuing the mentorship programme, updating the e-library and establishing a general academic helpdesk for all, alongside other initiatives.
POSS PRESS: The academic calendar has officially begun with our faculty releasing the drafts for this session’s timetable. Has preparation for any of the plans begun?
RAMADIYAT: Yes, The E-library has been updated and will be publicized once the executives are officially inaugurated. Also, the mentorship form has already been released to 100-level and 200-level students for them to fill. Once a good number of responses have been received, the programme will be rolled out.
POSS PRESS: Should NAPSSites expect the updated version of the E-library this week?
RAMADIYAT: Yes, The E library will be released this week.
POSS PRESS: For the mentorship programme, you mentioned that the form has been released for 100 and 200 level students, as mentees right?
RAMADIYAT: Yes
POSS PRESS: What preparations are in place for mentors?
RAMADIYAT: We’ve reached out to a number of students, and many of them have expressed their willingness to be mentors
POSS PRESS: What has the response for the mentees form been like so far?
RAMADIYAT: We have received over 100 responses so far from both 100-level and 200-level students. However, this number is still quite low, considering that the 100-level students alone have a population of more than 90.
POSS PRESS: Are there enough mentors on ground for that number?
RAMADIYAT: Yes
POSS PRESS: What should NAPSSITES look forward to in this administration, in terms of reforms, accountability, and delivery on campaign promises?
RAMADIYAT: A General Academic Helpdesk for everyone, as mentioned earlier, as well as a Research and Academic Development Training for 300L and 400L students. There will also be the provision of markers and dusters to class representatives, tutorials and a seminar on job opportunities in Political Science which will be done during NAPSS Week. Also, The Freshers’ Welcome Programme and also a social and fun event, Games Day.All these I made mention of in my manifesto and I hope to fulfill them all.
