In what will go down as one of the most memorable matches in this Super cup tournament, Political Science (POS) overturned a 2-0 deficit to defeat Philosophy in a penalty shootout on December 10, 2024 at the Sub Pitch. The victory not only secured POS a spot in the semifinals but also exacted revenge for their loss in the final to Philosophy during the SEALS cup tournament two sessions ago.
The stage was set for an intense showdown between these fierce rivals, and the opening moments of the game did not disappoint. Philosophy came out strong, dominating possession and carving through POS’s defense with precision. They opened up the scoring following a confusion at the POS goal mouth gave them the chance to take the lead , followed moments later by a stunning lob from outside the penalty area that left the POS goalkeeper helpless.
Despite being down 2-0, Political Science regrouped, determined not to crumble under the pressure. The remainder of the first half was an intense battle of tactics and physicality, with neither team willing to give an inch. POS pushed forward in search of a goal but struggled to break down Philosophy’s resolute defense, and the half ended with the score unchanged.
The second half initially offered little hope for POS fans. Philosophy continued to control the game, keeping POS’s attacks at bay. Time ticked away, and it seemed the game was slipping out of reach for Political Science.
However, in the dying minutes of the match, POS’s star midfielder Pogba stepped up and delivered a heroic performance. With two perfectly timed headers, he stunned Philosophy’s defense, scoring twice in rapid succession to level the match at 2-2. The final whistle blew, sending the game into penalties.
In the shootout, Political Science displayed composure and precision. Four of their five penalty takers converted with ease, while Philosophy faltered under the pressure, missing crucial attempts, the shootout ended 4-3 in favor of Political Science. POS celebrated wildly as their spot in the semifinals was confirmed, where they will face either IPE or Dentistry.
