Political Science Students’ Press Organisation successfully hosted the 4th edition of the Billy Dudley Symposium today, 5th of February, 2025 at the SLT of the Social Sciences faculty. The event themed “From a Beacon of Economic Growth in Africa to a Struggling Economy: Can Nigeria Ever Realise Its Economic Potential?”provided a platform for intellectual engagement and a show of oratory .
The symposium kicked off with a vibrant panel session featuring distinguished speakers, including; Dr. Muritala Monsour, Dr. Aderemi Busari, Adebayo Abdulrahman, and John Olorunfemi. The panelists engaged in discussions, offering diverse perspectives on the challenges facing Nigeria’s economy and the pathways to realising its full potential. Drawing from their areas of expertise, they addressed critical questions concerning policy implementation, governance, resource management, and the role of citizens in economic development.In recognition of their valuable contributions, the panelists were presented with awards of appreciation.
The ceremony then transitioned into the much-anticipated debate segment of the NAPSS L&D Speechcraft 5.0 themed “Battle of Eloquence,” where participants from the NAPSS L&D showcased their public speaking skills on the topic“Should abortion be a fundamental human right, or should it be restricted or banned?” After the contest, Abdulfatai Khadijah emerged as the winner, securing first place with an outstanding performance.
The event also featured an award ceremony for the press. Certificate of induction to new members and Certificate of Service to Old members were handed out, alongside special awards recognising excellence within the organisation. Olatoye Temiloluwa was awarded as the Pressman of the year. Akinsola Ayomide was also awarded as the Best Inductee of the year.
The 4th edition of the Billy Dudley Symposium and Speech Craft reaffirmed the Department of Political Science Press’s commitment to fostering intellectual growth.
