In the recently completed Lagos State University Student Union inter-varsity debate with the theme of “Building a Nation of Virtue,” which was held at Hallowed Chambers, Students’ Union, on Monday 5th December and Tuesday 6th December 2022, The 5th inter-varsity debate was organized by the 32nd Lagos State University Students` Union.
The University of Ibadan team defeated its rivals from Lagos State University, Obafemi Awolowo University, Olabisi Onabanjo University, University of Benin, Harvarde College, Ladoke Akintola University, Osun State University, Federal University of Agriculture, and Lagos State University of Education.
Okusanya Goodness(Faculty of Arts LnD President), Olayide Bolaji (Tedder hall LnD President) and Adebayo Abdulrahman (TLDS Vice President) efficiently represented University of Ibadan.
The topics in discourse were, Social Media is just what Nigeria needs, Transfer of power to Youths: Solution to bad governance in Nigeria and an oratory contest: What you will do if you were appointed special adviser to the Nigerian President? The trio recorded success in all rounds.
Only teams UI, LASU, OAU and OOU all qualified for the finale, where UI came first, and LASU, OAU came right behind the first and the best.
The winner was awarded a cash prize of #200,00, while the first runner up and second runner up got #150,000 and #100,000 respectively. Other prizes include the overall best speaker (#20,000), and the Team spirit award(#20,000). Okusanya Goodness of team UI won the overall best speaker.
Institutions which participated in the 2022 LASUSU annual Inter-varsity debate qualified via an essay entry which was submitted by various Institutions, only those essay entries that were best qualified for the physical Inter-varsity debate, each team submitted an essay of not more than 1500 words on the topic: BUILDING A NATION OF VIRTUE.
The annual debate was judged by Victory Adekambi, John Ebi and Ibrahim Fatoyinbo.
