The national association of political science students UI chapter, sets to hold her Bye Election for 2024/2025 session on 22/05/2025. The members of the executive council was not fully occupied during the general elections the previous session which prompted the need for a bye election.
Aside the President, Vice president, General secretary and the AGS which have been occupied, others position such as the PRO, treasurer, sports director, social director are still vacant. In an interview with the chairman of NAPSSIEC, Mr Lawal Abraham, on the issues on ground regarding the bye election.
POSSPRESS: I’m Usman Toheeb, can you tell us your name, your role in the department?Abraham: Okay, I’m Lawal Abraham and also the chairman of NAPSSIEC for 2024/2025 session.
POSSPRESS: According to your recent post, you want to conduct election for this session?
Abraham: Yes, Bye election specifically.
POSSPRESS: Bye election?
Abraham: Yes, Bye election is conducted for vacant post, death of an office holder and others.
POSSPRESS: If i may ask, how many vacant post are available?
Abraham: We have 4 more vacant post available.
POSSPRESS: what are they?
Abraham: The PRO, Treasurer, Social Director and Sport Director.
POSSPRESS: Regarding the 4 positions you’ve mentioned earlier, are they going unopposed or they have opponents?
Abraham: No, they are going unopposed except the PRO office which no one is running for.
POSSPRESS: How much is the form?
Abraham: #2,000 each though the duration has elapsed, which means we only sell 3 forms excluding the PRO position which no one is interested in for now.
POSSPRESS: Why so much in haste, i feel the PRO is also important, students might be interested in it as time goes on.
Abraham: maybe, but we’re in the fifth week of the first semester, the Senate can approve to fill in the PRO as the case maybe.
POSSPRESS: who are the 3 candidates for the position?Abraham: Alabi Ife from 400 level for the position of the sport director, Warees from 300 level for the position of the social director and lastly Adebayo from 300 level going for the treasurer.
POSSPRESS: Who are eligible to vote?
Abraham: The 200, 300 and 400 Political Science student excluding the 100 level.

Over to the aspirants, to remember the promises made by them before assuming the office, to actualize the plans documented by them in their respective manifestoes, and not make them only exist in papers without been made a reality before the end of their tenure. Also to prioritize community gain over individual interest while working together to elevate NAPSS as a student community.
