The Faculty of the Social Sciences Students’ Association (FATSSSA) has been pulled into fresh controversy, as a disagreement over FATSSSA Week graphics has led to the removal of the association’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ejike Precious M. (Sommachi), from FATSSSA’s executive WhatsApp group.
The President, Adegoke Peter, says she was only suspended from the group for rudeness, and not from her office. But a screenshot of his own message to her, sent at the point of removal, uses the word “suspended” without any such qualification. POSSPRESS has spoken to both sides and reviewed chats, screenshots, and voice notes.
WHAT STARTED THE DISAGREEMENT
The trouble began with the graphics for FATSSSA Week 2026, themed “The Odyssey.” The first anticipation graphic listed the PRO and the Social Director as contacts for enquiries. The President objected. He said the graphic did not carry the team logo, and that the enquiry line should carry his name and the Financial Secretary for sponsorship and collaboration reasons, not the Social Director’s. The PRO changed the enquiry line to the Vice President and Social Director instead, saying the FATSSSA constitution places those two offices in charge of FATSSSA Week.
A screenshot shared with POSSPRESS confirms this. It quotes Section 8 of the constitution, which states that the “Social Director shall be the Chairman of the Social Organizing Committee during the FATSSSA Annual Week.”

THE AI GRAPHIC AND THE CAPTION SAGA
As the delay continued, the President created his own graphic for the FATSSSA week publicity. The PRO said the design looked AI-generated and refused to approve it. Chat records show she told him directly, “Mr President this still screams AI, you basically altered the initial designer graphics and it’s not nice.” He also said he set up a separate publicity team to trend the graphic without the PRO’s office, and used the same caption she had written for the earlier design, but removed her name from it.
When the graphic went out, the PRO wrote in the group that using her caption on an AI-generated design was “infuriating.” This word triggered the President’s anger. A voice note reviewed by POSSPRESS captures him saying: “Madam PRO, infuriating? I’ll be removing you in the next 10 minutes if you do not apologize for your words.”

A screenshot shows the message he sent right after: “You are suspended for failing to apologize for the inappropriate use of words with your team members. Your reinstatement would require a public apology to the team and general FATSSSAITES.” He then removed her from the group. Screenshots also confirm she lost her admin role on the FATSSSA announcement page around the same time.

SUSPENDED, OR JUST REMOVED FROM THE GROUP?
This is where the two accounts disagree the most. The PRO told POSSPRESS plainly: “Yes, I have been suspended by the President.” She said this happened without the house being informed. The Speaker also confirmed he was not aware of any suspension or removal.
The President has repeated, on more than one occasion, that this was not a suspension from her office. In his words: “That wasn’t suspension from her office. She was only suspended from the group due to her rude talks on her fellow teammate. If she was suspended from office, I would have written to the house and management to follow due process.”
However, the message he sent to her at the point of removal used the word “suspended” without the distinction he has since drawn, though he has since clarified that the suspension was from the executive group and not from her office.
It is also worth noting that despite the President’s claim about removal only from the WhatsApp group, he went on to create a separate Publicity group for FATSSSA Week, effectively sidelining the PRO. His reason for this was that the PRO was not doing her job properly.
The PRO has since informed the house of the matter and was expected to meet with a Faculty officer to discuss it further.
WHAT THE CONSTITUTION SAYS
FATSSSA’s constitution appears to speak directly to this dispute. Article 9 states that the power to suspend or impeach a member of the Executive Council belongs to the Faculty House of Representatives (FHR), not to the President alone. Such action must go through “rigorous debates and investigation” and be supported by at least two-thirds of the full FHR membership. Article 20, under Codes of Conduct, repeats the same point, listing suspension among the punishments the FHR may order after due process.
This means that regardless of whether the President intended a suspension from the group chat or from the office of PRO, the constitution does not appear to give him the power to suspend an executive member on his own. For such an action to be valid, it would first need to go before the FHR.
THE MONEY AND FINANCIAL QUESTIONS
The President raised concerns about the PRO’s handling of association funds. He said she was given a budget of ₦90,000, including ₦15,000 monthly for data, but her output did not match this. He also said FATSSSA TV advertising revenue was not properly remitted, and claimed only ₦9,000 (3×3000) has been remmited which was direct from her account after her removal from the group.
POSSPRESS quarried the PRO regarding budget proved for her office. She confirmed that her office initially presented ₦105,000 to the house, however ₦90,000 was approved by the house. In her words “I broke it down as ₦45,000 for a tripod and microphone (bought for FATSSSA’s use) and ₦45,000 for a semester’s data.”
On ad revenue, screenshots of bank transfers she shared with POSSPRESS show at least five separate payments to the Faculty account between June and September 2026, two of which were ₦5,000 each. This is higher than the ₦3,000 ceiling the President described. POSSPRESS could not confirm from the screenshots alone whether each date shows one or two completed transfers, since one transaction per date is marked “Closed or wether those money were sent from her account directly after her removal from the WhatsApp group.

On the Public Address (PA) system, the President claimed that the PRO rented it out without informing him or remitting the proceeds. The PRO denies this. She said she rented the PA system twice, one for for ₦3,000 and once to a FATSSSAITE for ₦5,000, and that both amounts were remitted to the association. She further explained that there as been minimum patronage of FATSSSA TV ads.
POSSPRESS reached out to the Financial Secretary, Matthew Itodo, to confirm the ad revenue remittance dates, and the PA system proceeds. He declined to confirm or deny any of it, stating: “I will not be confirming, disclosing, or discussing any financial information relating to my office or any other FATSSSA office.“
OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT DELAY
The President is not the only executive member who complained about delays from the PRO’s office. Chat records show the Vice President separately telling her, sixteen days to FATSSSA Week, that her work was “seriously lagging” and demanding an accountability report. Another member also complained about slow response times from her media team.
At the same time, one screenshot shows the PRO explaining to the group that a power outage and a personal health issue had affected her ability to work in the days before the conflict came to a head.
This is not the first time the leadership of the association has been at the centre of a crisis. In May 2026, President Adegoke Peter was impeached by the Faculty House of Representatives (FHR) over allegations of unruly conduct toward the House, and four other executives, the Vice President, Financial Secretary, Social Director, and Sports Director, were separately suspended. The House later restored the President and the affected executives after mediation. With this new PRO dispute, questions are again being raised about the state of leadership within the faculty.
WHERE THINGS STAND
The dispute has since spread beyond the two principals. The PRO has told POSSPRESS she has now formally notified the house and was due to meet a Faculty officer.
