As it stands now in Nigeria, the major talk of the country is about the concluded presidential, that held on the 25th of February and the gubernatorial election which also held on the 18th of March. Although, many might say the recent gubernatorial election was peaceful and orderly, which would be quite strange and unbelievable to those who experienced the violence and attacks issued by political thugs on harmless civilians, who came out on Saturday to vote for candidate of their choice. So were the Nigerians celebrities not left out, such as Chioma Akpotha, Kate Henshaw, Rita Dominic, Omoni Oboli and many others.
However, the major factors responsible for this diverse experience can be pinned on the incompetence of the INEC(Independent National Electoral Commission) for their failure to perform the task of putting the citizens interest first and making sure that all elections are conducted free and fair at all polling units.
On the 25th of February, many citizens of Nigeria including celebrities came out to exercise they civic right and duty to their country. But such was not the case as many were harassed and bullied for the choice in candidate and INEC incompetence in carrying out their responsibility.
Actress such as Chioma Akpotha, shared on her instagram page of how she was being chased by political louts and had to rush away from her polling unit into her car for safety. She shared this in a live video she made of her being chased and the thugs carrying knives, bottles and guns to harass citizens away from the polling unit. In addition to this, her car was reported to have been damaged by this goons and she made her way to the police truck before driving home, saying ” I will not put my life at further risk”

Others who made accusations against the INEC body for a disorganized planning and co-ordination includes Kate Henshaw, Rita Dominic ,Omoni Oboli and Singer Waje who called out the INEC body, seeking for explanation as to why the venue of their polling unit was changed from a safe environment to an unsafe environment abruptly without a prior notice or an important reason.
Kate Henshaw also expressed her displeasure through a video she posted on social media and accused the Executive Chairman of Iru-Victoria Island, namely Rasheedat Adu, of intimidating and inciting thugs against her in the polling unit.
These celebrities have become heroes to their fans and supporters, who see them as courageous and principled for standing up for what they believe in.
