The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) has raised concern over a fraudulent page on X that is allegedly soliciting support under false pretenses. The institution has urged staff, students, alumni, and the general public to disregard any such requests and unfollow the deceptive page.
In a special release by the Registrar of the university,UI, stated that the fraudulent page was created to scam innocent members of the public by requesting financial assistance for the maintenance and verification of the institution’s official social media handles. The university firmly denied any involvement in such activities, emphasizing that it would never resort to soliciting funds in this manner.The fraudulent post on X claimed: “We are seeking the support of its stakeholders, including students, staff, alumni, and the general public in acquiring the verification of its official social media accounts.” The university has dismissed this as a scam and advised members of its community to be vigilant.To help the public identify and follow the correct accounts, the university has disclosed its official social media handles.
