Welcome back to the National Association of Political Science Students, University of Ibadan (NAPSSUI). Following the power tussle between the executive and the legislature over constitutional interpretations and payment of fines, an atmosphere of tranquillity is back in the association after the valiant effort of the department to settle the dispute between the two warring organs.
Due to the President, Mr. Victor’s displeasure with the resolution of the Senate, he wrote to the acting HOD, Prof. Bukola to appeal the decision of the law-making organ and intercede in the miscommunication between the executive and legislature organ of the department. Acting on the letter, Prof. Bukola delegated the peacekeeping function to Dr. Lafenwa who held a meeting with representatives of the executive, legislature and the press.
In his speech, he admonished both parties to always find peaceful solutions to disagreements. Furthermore, he pointed to some contradictions in the constitution which can lead to the error of misinterpretation and conflict between the organs. He pleaded with both organs to sheath their war swords and allow for peace and administrative coherence. He concluded the meeting by ordering the President to pay the initial three thousand naira fine he was meant to pay and also instructed the legislature to suspend all procedures of suspension on the ground while both parties start on fresh ground.
With this, NAPSSites can be assured that the gathering storms of discord are now dissipated and coherence and tranquillity are back in our NAPSS. As the popular saying goes, “Abu Abel ti settle è”
