The Alumnus Political Science, the class of 2001 organized a reunion lecture. The programme which looks forward to bringing back old memories and relationships amongst graduates of the class 2001 and also a means of connection with the department.
The programme which started at exactly 2:00 pm on Friday, 29th of September is held at the Faculty Postgraduate Seminar Room.
The event have distinguished lecturers and personnel in attendance, like Prof. Pogonson; HOD of Political Science, Prof. Remi Aiyede, Prof. Isumonah, Emeritus Prof. Agbaje, Dr. Lafenwa, Dr. Idachaba, and many others.
The lecture was delivered by Prof. Victor Isumonah titled “Democratic Consolidation in Nigeria; Lessons from the 2023 General Election”.
He started by discussing the 2023 general election which was won by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC party. He asked how sure the populace will be if the Democratic Consolidation in Nigeria is not fallacious?
“Democracy is more competent than Electoral transition, it is a long lasting unaccomplished project”.
“If the populace had paid more attention to the local level, Democracy would have been more better and productive because everything starts from the grassroot, it is first impacted from the root level which gets to the state level, then to National level and to the Bloc.” He added.
He further gave an example of an interview he watched on Channels TV where the former Senate President Ibrahim Mantu believed Election results don’t need to be changed because provision is made for the INEC, security and other agencies involved in conducting Election.
The event also witnessed presentation of Awards to distinguished personnels and lecturers in the department of Political Science, The Political Science Class of 2001 presented awards to the following people;

* Professor. Irene Pogoson; the HOD of Political Science
* Professor. Isumonah
* Professor. Osaghae
* Professor. Bayo Okunade
* Dr. Idachaba
* Dr. Tunde Oyekanmi, and many other distinguished lecturers.
