Political Science Department Declares Lecture-Free Day in Honour of Late Professor Irene Pogoson

In a heartfelt move to honour the legacy of a respected academic, a leading scholar of international relations, the Department of Political Science has declared Tuesday, October 28, 2025, as a lecture-free day in memory of Professor Aituaje Irene Pogoson, a former Head of Department and a beloved lecturer who made lasting contributions to the growth and development of students in the department.

According to a statement released by the Department Management and concerned stakeholders, the decision was made to celebrate the life and impact of the late scholar, who was widely known for her dedication, brilliance, and commitment to academic excellence.

Professor Pogoson was more than a lecturer, she was a mentor and mother figure to many students and colleagues, known for using her wealth of experience and intellectual acumen to advance the department and inspire younger generations of political scientists. “This lecture-free day is a symbolic gesture to pay respect to a woman who gave so much of herself to this department and to the academic community at large,” the statement read in part.

Students and staff are expected to observe the day in reflection and remembrance of Professor Pogoson’s remarkable life and service.
