The General Secretary of the National Association of Political Science Students (NAPSS), Sunday Oluwanifesimi, has been suspended by the Senate till the end of the semester over what the House described as failure to take accountability for negligence of duty.
The decision was taken during the 3rd Senate sitting held on Sunday evening, which was conducted virtually.
Recall that during the previous sitting, the General Secretary was fined for negligence of duty, a sanction he accepted before the House. He was also mandated to issue a letter of apology to NAPSSites, but failed to comply with the directive until last night during the Senate sitting.
During deliberations, the General Secretary appeared before the House questioning why he should release an apology letter to the students he represents.
His remarks and refusal to fully comply with the House’s directive subsequently led to his suspension by the Senate.
The House also directed him to issue a separate apology letter to the press over disrespectful conduct towards the press.
In addition, the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) has been directed to immediately assume the duties of the General Secretary for the duration of the suspension.
It would also be recalled that both the Vice President and the General Secretary narrowly escaped impeachment during the previous sitting following controversies surrounding their conduct and handling of official responsibilities.
