The National Association of Political Science Students’, University of Ibadan on Friday, 12th. of July, 2024 held a congress at the large lecture theatre (LLT), Faculty of the Social Sciences to discuss important issues affecting the association. The Congress started with an address from NAPSS President, Mr. Adewumi Samuel.
Mr Adewumi started his discussion by orienting the freshmen on some activities of the association and elaborating on the importance of unity in NAPSS. He also admonished the audience on the importance of popular participation in both political and social activities of the association while emphasizing low turnout during the last election which ushered in his administration.
During his address, the President also called the attention of the freshmen to the existence of a book bank where they can access textbooks donated by their seniors on different courses and pleaded with NAPSSites from 200lv-400lv to donate textbooks they used in previous years.
While the Congress was opened to NAPSSites to speak on issues affecting them, Delight, a 100lv student raised a question about when the association would start organizing tutorials. Her question was addressed by the Vice President, Miss Adeola. Miss Adeola explained to Congress that the association would be partnering with the faculty to organize tutorials to cover a wider range of courses, especially borrowed courses from other departments in the faculty.
Moving on, a freshman, Oluwaseun asked a question on why 100lv students are disenfranchised from voting in the bye-election recently held to fill some vacant posts in the association. In reply, the President replied, “100 lvl are unable to vote because it is a bye-election, and besides your level has not resumed and do not know who exactly you are to vote for and that is the main reason you are unable to vote in that election.”
The Vice President ended the Congress by reminding the freshmen of the mentorship program and for the freshmen to read the guidelines of the program.
