A man was arrested on Monday night near the University of Ibadan First Gate after allegedly attempting to recover an impounded tricycle without authorization.
The incident reportedly occurred around 8:14 p.m. when officers of the institution’s Campus Security Service (CSS) intercepted the suspect while he was allegedly trying to move a tricycle earlier impounded over illegal parking violations.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect claimed the tricycle had previously been seized from him and kept within the UI First Gate area. He reportedly returned later in an attempt to retrieve the vehicle without obtaining clearance from the appropriate authorities.
Witnesses said the suspect attempted to move the tricycle through the sidewalk before attracting the attention of security personnel on duty. Security sources further alleged that a brief confrontation ensued after the suspect resisted arrest. The sources claimed he attempted to physically engage one of the officers before he was eventually subdued and apprehended by security personnel.
The suspect reportedly identified himself as a student of another institution, though not of the University of Ibadan. His identity and claims had not been independently verified as of the time of filing this report.
He was later seen being escorted away in a Crime Patrol vehicle for further questioning.
