All pupils and teachers abducted during the recent attack on Ahoro-Esiele community in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been rescued by Nigerian security agencies.
The development was announced on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via his X account.
According to Onanuga, eight suspected kidnappers were arrested during the rescue operation and are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), while several others were neutralised.
He added that no ransom or prisoner exchange was involved in securing the victims’ release. The kidnappers had reportedly demanded the release of one of their kingpins, who is currently facing prosecution for alleged acts of terrorism, but the request was rejected.
“The security agencies will give a full account soon,” Onanuga stated.
The victims were abducted May 15th when armed men attacked a school in Orire Local Government Area.
Further details of the rescue operation are expected as the security agencies provide a comprehensive briefing.
