Match day two of NAPSS HOD cup fixtures saw both 400-level and 200-level teams emerged victorious against 300lv and 100lv teams. The two encounters showcased skill, determination, and drama on the field.
400-Level vs. 300-Level was a Seven-Goal Thriller, the clash between the 400-level and 300-level teams lived up to its billing as a must-watch match, with the seniors edging out their juniors 4-3 in a thrilling encounter. The 400-level team wasted no time asserting their dominance, racing to a 2-1 lead at halftime. Akon proved unplayable in the first half, netting two goals, while Oba kept the 300-level team in contention with a fine strike of his own.
The second half saw Akon complete his hat trick, extending the lead to 3-1. However, a mistake from the 400-level goalkeeper, Larhor, gifted Timi a tap-in, reviving hopes for the 300-level side. Olami then capped off a brilliant team move with a goal, bringing the scoreline to 4-2. Despite a late surge from the 300-level team, highlighted by Oba’s expertly executed free kick, the 400-level team held on to secure the narrow win.
In the second fixture of the day, the 200-level team edged the 100-level side in a closely contested 2-1 encounter. The freshers got off to a dream start when a defensive mistake saw Obinna turn Stanley’s free kick into his own net, giving the 100-level team an early lead.
Obinna redeemed himself in spectacular fashion, calmly converting a penalty after a handball in the box to level the score. With momentum swinging in their favor, the 200-level team pressed forward and found the winner through Bright’s perfectly timed header, sealing their victory and ensuring their qualification for the next round.
