With the Departmental election on the horizon, POSSPress has taken up the mantle of conducting an introductory interview on executive aspirants vying for various positions of authority in the executive council. In this article, I will be reporting on my one-to-one virtual interview with Mr. Boniface Johnson Victor, vying for the post of Departmental President.
Emmanuel (POSSPress): Hello, Mr. Boniface. This is an interview organized by Posspress Can you introduce yourself?
Mr. Boniface: My name is John Victor Boniface
A 300l students of this wonderful, great department ( political science)
Emmanuel (POSSPress): Concerning your department and experience, Can you please provide an overview of your relevant background and experience for the department you aspire to lead?
Mr. Boniface: Thank you so much. Ok, this is my 3year in the Senate House I once served as the deputy leader in my 100-level day and as the majority leader in 200-level.
I also contested for the office of the Vice President of the department which I didn’t win. Now I’m contesting for the office of the President of this great department!
This department is well known for greatness. Before I got admitted have heard a lot about this department so I decided to come in and Have been in this department for 3years
We have great men and women in this department
Some with entrepreneur skills which I have come to learn from them
Emmanuel (POSSPress): Is that all?
Mr. Boniface: No. In my 3 years, I have met with great personalities. This department have shaped me to the man I am now. This department opened my eyes to things. Wonderful lecturers, I can say without any doubt that this department have produced great people all over. I have met three President and have learned a lot from them
Emmanuel (POSSPress): Presidents like?
Mr. Boniface: Ajayi Thomas ( Tom), Leader like Theory and now President Ikotun
Emmanuel (POSSpress): Okay
Mr. Boniface: Tom leadership qualities is something I envy
Emmanuel (POSSPress): What specific skills and qualifications make you a suitable candidate for this position?
Mr Boniface: Leadership skills, good communication skills, ability to adapt, ability to solve problem, I love teamwork, I’m a strategic thinker, I have experience, and I have vision
Emmanuel (POSSPress): Have you held any previous leadership roles or positions of responsibility that demonstrate your ability to manage a department effectively?
Mr. Boniface: Yes currently I’m the chairman of the student welfare in the student’s representative council (SRC). Currently the head of my church drama unit winner’s chapel. I was once the deputy speaker of KutiHall.
I was the first head boy of Army day senior secondary school as an art students, class Rep from my primary to secondary school. I have always been made to lead where ever I find myself.
Emmanuel (POSSPress): What is your vision for the department and its role within the broader government structure?
Mr. Boniface: My vision for this department is take it to the top … through all have listed on my manifesto when it time you will get it. Not to forget my aim or agenda is an all inclusive one. It is for the benefit of all NAPPSITEs. I have discovered something that I will be working with or on. You [The Press] and the entirely department will be involved.
Emmanuel (POSSPress): How would you handle media relations and engage with the press on matters related to the department?
Mr. Boniface: Thank you. The constitution gives room for the office the Public Relations Officer. I will be working hand in hand with the office. Time to we have press release. Not only that but also the social media will be in full use. However I’m planning to have a transparent Administration.From time to time I will take proactive steps in reaching out to the press.
Emmanuel (POSSPress): What is your approach to policy development and decision-making within the department?
Mr. Boniface: I will be operating and an acephalous system of government so most people or the entire people are involved in the decision making I’ll be sending out a form of Google form from the office of the PRO for people to get to air their views and give solution to whatever matter that will arise. Decision-making will be a general thing it is whatever they decide that I will work with thank you.
Emmanuel [POSSPress]: How would you ensure transparency and accountability in decision-making processes?
Mr Boniface: Thank you like I lastly alighted a Google forms will be sent to the people to air theirs displeasure and happiness on my progress this I will work on. Also The senate are saddle with the responsibility of check and balance. I will also call for Congress.
Emmanuel (POSSPress): Can you provide examples of how you have implemented innovative solutions in your previous roles?
Mr Boniface: Well let me start from my days in secondary school as the head boy I was about to out an end to students living during school hours. As a floor rep in Kuti hall, during my tenure we were never fine because i was able to play a fatherly role checking up on each member of floor from time to time also I coached my floor to theits first ever victory in football. In my church I brought in the idea of script writing etc
Emmanuel (POSSPress): What steps would you take to ensure the department remains agile and responsive to changing needs and challenges?
Mr Boniface: First thing I will foster a culture of adaptability. By promoting and open communication by asking the people our this great department to share ideas and feedback.
Regular feedback and evaluation: Implement mechanisms for regular feedback and evaluation of processes, projects, and outcomes.
Emmanuel (POSSPress): What will you address differently if you were elected as president?
Mr Boniface: A lot… First thing I’m in bringing unity and one voice in the department
I want us to fully represent in the faculty,hall of residence and even SU
We are known for greatness
Emmanuel (POSSPress): What are the problems of the department you believe need to be addressed as soon as possible?
Mr. Boniface: Togetherness Since I’m bringing in inclusiveness
Me and my team will always be accessible. Freshers won’t pick or borrow courses that hurt them and so on….
