Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has opened up about her personal faith, describing her relationship with God as deeply individual and not limited to church attendance. The singer made the remarks during a recent livestream with TikTok creator Jarvis, where she spoke candidly about her spiritual journey and evolving understanding of religion.

“I have a very close relationship with God and the Holy Spirit, and it doesn’t come with me only being in church,” she said, stressing that her faith extends beyond physical gatherings and traditional practices.

Ayra Starr explained that her approach to spirituality is centred on living a life that reflects Christ-like values, even as she acknowledges that she is still growing in that regard. According to her, the goal is to embody the teachings of Jesus in everyday life, though she admits she has not fully reached that point. “I’m not there yet, but I’m working towards it,” she noted.

The singer also pointed out that her connection with God is personal and shaped by her own experiences, rather than being strictly defined by organised religion. She added that some aspects of religion can feel restrictive, suggesting that faith should be something individuals navigate in a way that resonates with them.“I have found a way that works with me, and that is what is working for me, and I am fine with it for now,” she said.

Her comments have since sparked reactions online, with fans and observers engaging in conversations about her comments.
