Many a time, when the vacant executive positions aren’t fully occupied during the general elections by the end of the session, bye election is therefore introduced as a panacea to the situation on ground.
On many occasions, it’s usually held in the new session. During the former election, the position of the social director, Public relations officer, sports director, and the treasurer wasn’t occupied which leaves no other option than to introduce a bye election to fill up these aforementioned positions. Shortly after the inauguration of the new members of NAPSSIEC (NAPSS Independent Electoral Commission) a broadcast message was released by them to indicate the lift of ban for the bye-election, the sale of forms, according to NAPSSIEC would commence from May 9th to 16th, 2025.
Election goes beyond selection!. Not only about filling up the vacant spaces, but a true representation matters. Could the level of such attributes needed from an aspirant be measured when contesting for post are intentionally delayed to avoid interrogation, and seen as an avenue for easy method to assume a political office.
Yet we can’t underestimate the notion that most times students don’t actually put in full consideration during the main election, and when bye election is introduced, they give it a rethink and feel they can perform well for such post, another driving force is the passion for the association, they can watch such post vacant or occupied by less capable individuals.
The question is is Bye election enough to produce office holders who exercise true representation and true ethos behind popular sovereignty?Over to NAPSSITES to put in their course of study into practical and shun the voices of apathy.
