He died. I cry
He lives, still I cry
Life and death are alike
The hurt they bring, their pride
While some may try to hide
Others just let it out and cry
For me, I just…try
To stand, to survive
Because we’ll lose some to death
And life will make demands on the rest of them
Gradually, sometimes suddenly
He becomes busy
Can’t make time for me
The love still exists
So far, beyond my reach!
Now, tell me
What good are those memories?
Building blocks for stronger boundaries?
Truth is, I’ve never really lost anyone to death;
Life just always takes them
Conflicts of interest
Statements heard as sentences
Misunderstandings of what was indeed meant
The idea of “us”, now a past tense
There go my hopes, cruelly silenced
And the bruise, brutally violent
Mistakes earned, lessons learnt
Distance earned, distance felt
For it’s one thing to lose someone to death
But what happens when life takes them?
No one is to blame
Life is a race
Where everyone changes lanes
Nor do we lose the same
“Earth’s loss, Heaven’s gain”
So they say
Ayo’s loss, Ife’s gain
Expect a lot to change
‘Cause while some may follow death
Life tends to steal the rest of them
Before you come for me
I speak only of a he
Simply to give this
A sensual appeal
But, the truth is this
Be it you, he or she
And no matter the reason
Loss always invites grief
Truly, it’s a sad thing to lose someone to death
But what happens when life takes them?
