The Students’ Union of the University of Ibadan has issued an urgent notice demanding the immediate restoration of stable electricity supply across the campus.
The notice, dated April 26, 2026, reflects growing frustration among students over persistent power outages that have disrupted academic and social life within the university.
According to the Union, recent consultations and deliberations with the university management have failed to produce meaningful improvements. The erratic power supply, which has lingered for some time, has now reached a critical point, affecting students’ ability to study effectively, access essential services, and maintain a conducive learning environment.
The Union emphasized that it had initially pursued dialogue as a means of resolving the issue. However, given the lack of tangible progress, it now considers immediate action necessary.
In clear terms, the Union has given the University Management a 48-hour ultimatum to address the electricity challenges and ensure visible improvements on campus.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the Union stressed that the welfare of over 30,000 students cannot be compromised. Stable electricity is not a luxury but a basic necessity for sustaining the academic standards in University of Ibadan.
