The Department of Political Science clinched the Dean’s Cup with a nail-biting penalty shootout victory over their fierce rivals, the Department of Psychology. The final, held on January 18, 2025, showcased the best of football within the Faculty of Social Sciences and lived up to the hype of the long-standing rivalry between the two footballing powerhouses.
From the opening whistle, the match was an even contest. Both teams displayed discipline and determination, with neither side willing to move an inch. The first breakthrough came courtesy of Political Science’s main man, Pogba, who rose to the occasion with a perfectly timed header from a corner, giving POS a crucial lead just before halftime.
Psychology, however, was not to be outdone. They emerged for the second half with renewed strength, and their persistence paid off when their winger produced a moment of magic. In what seemed like an impossible angle, he unleashed a stunning shot that left POS goalkeeper Olami helpless, leveling the score and setting the stage for a thrilling end.
As the clock ticked down, both teams threw everything they had into finding a winner, but neither could break the deadlock. With the scores tied at 1-1 after regulation time, the match proceeded to penalties.
The shootout was quite a display, with each team converting their penalties with clinical accuracy. The turning point came when a Psychology player faltered, missing his spot-kick and handing POS gold in the deans cup for a third time in a row.
This victory was particularly special for the Political Science team as it marked the farewell match for many of their players and even their coach. It was a fitting send-off, ending their journey on a high note with a well-deserved triumph.
