National Association of Political Science Students, Southwest Region (NAPSS Southwest) paid a unification visit to NAPSS UI today, 14th of August, 2024.
The gathering, which commenced shortly after 11:00 a.m., was attended by Dr. Godwin, representing the HOD, NAPSS UI Executive President, Adewunmi Samuel, NAPSS Southwest Coordinator, Comrade Adetayo Boluwatife, and NAPSS Southwest Treasurer, Comrade Abdulsalam. Also in attendance were Abiodun Toluwashe, SSA on Fiscal Policies to the Coordinator, members of the Executive Council, NAPSS UI Senate President, Sunday Noah, principal members of the house, PossPress EIC, Habeeb Lanlehin, class representatives from 100-300 level, and other stakeholders.
In his address to the gathering, Comrade Adetayo expressed his gratitude to NAPSS UI for welcoming him and honouring his letter of visitation. He also extended his appreciation to Dr Godwin for gracing the occasion with his presence. Comrade Adetayo then delved into the challenges facing the association, highlighting issues such as financial constraints and a lack of understanding among HODs of member chapters regarding the association’s purpose and objectives.
In response to the challenges, Dr Godwin spoke on the importance of the body writing letters to departmental heads of members to inform them of the activities of the association. He also spoke on the importance of due collection to boost the financial strength of the association. To round up his speech, he emphasized the importance of building trust through financial transparency and having an inclusive administration. After giving the speech, he excused himself to attend to other duties.
Contributing to the discussion, Sen. Noah spoke in length on why NAPSS UI withdrew from the association due to unaccountability and failure of the regional association to add value to members of the chapter. Comr. Adetayo reassured the gathering that he will be leading an accountable administration and mentioned that he has already put plans in place for every executive member to give a stewardship account of their portfolio every month as well as paying a two thousand Naira monthly due for the growth of the association.
He also spoke on how the regional association has procured job opportunities for its members and facilitated other necessary connections.
Comrade Adetayo concluded his address by appealing to all stakeholders to rally behind the regional body and support the administration. He emphasized the importance of collective effort in driving the association’s growth. Comr. Adetayo also revealed that NAPSS UI would be hosting the association’s regional convention in December.
