Chelsea lost 2-0 away to Newcastle with one man down at Saint James’ Park. Both teams dream of securing a spot in the Champions League next season. An early goal, a straight red card and a late strike sealed the 2.0 victory for Newcastle.
The match commenced with an immediate shock for Chelsea as Sandro Tonali found the back of the net in just two minutes to the start of the game, capitalizing on Chelsea defensive lapses.The early goal rattled the Blues, before they could recover, they suffered another blow as Nicolas Jackson was sent off at 35th minute after a serious foul on Botman, which left Chelsea with ten men to the end of the match.
At the beginning of the second half, Chelsea attempted to stabilize the game but pressure mounted and the fatigue of playing a ten man game began to show. At the added time, Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle beat the keeper from outside the box which sealed Newcastle’s second goal and solidified Chelsea’s hope for the game.
This defeat is a troubled trend for Chelsea as rivals keep gaining momentum. The pressure now mounts on the Blues to turn things around in the final two league games or risk missing out the Champions League.
