The faculty of the social sciences, department of Political Science, on Wednesday 12th March 2025, hosted a Valedictory Program and 70th Birthday Lecture in honour of Professor Adebayo Okunade, marking his retirement from active academic service and celebrating his 70th birthday.
The event was held at the Large Lecture Theater, Faculty of the Social Sciences and was attended by lecturers, policymakers, students and colleagues who gathered to recognize the immense contributions of Professor Okunade to political science education in the university of ibadan.
The highlight of the event was a keynote lecture delivered by Prof. Tunji Olaopa, Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, on the theme “Is Leadership Sufficient to Deliver National Transformation in Nigeria?”. The event featured a panel of distinguished discussants, Prof. Emmanuel Onje (political science UI), Prof. O. S. Afolabi (Political Science, OAU), Comrade Azeem Salako(Research Fellow, NIALS, Lagos).
Also in attendance were several notable personalities, including: Prof. Adeolu Akande, former Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Engr. Wole Agbaje, CEO of Sceptre Consulting Ltd , Prof. D. A. Yagboyaju, Head of the Department of Political Science, UI, Prof. Benjamin Ehighe, Dean, Faculty of the Social Sciences, UI. Awards and gifts were presented to professor Okunade recognizing his contribution to the university community. The event eventually came to an end when professor Adebayo Okunade delivered a farewell speech.
