The Department of Political Science on Wednesday, 20th of September celebrates the departure of Dr. Babatunde Oyekanmi with a memorable send-forth party.
The event which took place at the Faculty Large Lecture Theater (LLT), began at 11 a.m. The event has in attendance prominent professors and Emeritis like Prof. Irene Pogonson; HOD Political Science, Emeritus Prof. Agbaje, Emeritus Prof. Adekanye, Emeritus Prof. Ayoade, including Prof. Eze Nwakocha; The Dean of the Faculty, and many other lecturers in the department, faculty, and outside the faculty.
The event witnessed a series of performances from students of the department like OluRotimi Taiwo and Ayanyemi Benjamin. Also, there were lots of remarks from friends and colleagues from the faculty.
During the course of the event, Prof. Irene Pogonson gave a remarkable speech about Dr. Babatunde Oyekanmi and his awesome character.
“Dr. Babatunde is more than a colleague to me, he’s a family friend. He showed that he’s not a person with a great attitude and character only but also a man who cares about everyone around him. He’d not only ask about me, he’d ask about my family. Even when we both became grandparents, he’d ask about my children and their children.”
Also, during the celebration, NAPSS executives presented a present (a picture frame). A friend of the celebrant also presented an envelope to the celebrant. It was also noted that Dr. Babatunde Oyekanmi, the person being celebrated, will be celebrating a birthday within the coming week.
The last daughter of the celebrant also gave a remark about her father, who made it known that he’s a great man with records, a teacher, and many others including being a tolerant person.
The send-forth party was a fitting tribute to Dr. Babatunde Oyekanmi’s long and distinguished career at the Department of Political Science. He will be deeply missed by his colleagues, students, and friends.
