It’s that time of the session where the gongs of social activities are beaten with rhythmic tenacity and classes are to settle in the back benches and watch students participate in various social activities and merriments. NAPSS week, 2024 is around the corner and it approaches with some innovations to spice up the week, especially the cultural night. According to the social director, Miss Anu Gbonjubola the cultural night this year will take the form of a wedding party where two undisclosed NAPSSites will tie nuptial knots. Who doesn’t like weddings?
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy while all play and no work makes Jill a mere toy. Going with reports gathered in the department, NAPSSites are neither Jack nor Jill and this can be inferred from the programs penned to come up during the week, the programs promised to be both entertaining and educative. Education in tertiary institutions is not confined to the four walls of the classroom and the knowledge needed to excel after school is not only to be found in expository pages of POS 111 or POS 343. Participation in extracurriculars and social activities is also a huge part of tertiary education.
In a chat with Miss Anu, she revealed the theme for the NAPSS week would be “POLITIFIESTA. Furthermore, she stated that “The Napss week especially the cultural night is taking a different turn this session…and with that I want Napssites to approach it with an open mind and of course excitement because just like I said it’s going to be different and great. However, it is important to state that there is some level of scepticism among NAPSSites on how eventful the week is going to be. Some sceptical NAPSSites also have accusative fingers pointed at the executive council for organizing a “boring and uneventful” picnic during the first semester.
In an interview with Mr. Favour Etunwoke, vice president of NAPSS. He expressed his disappointment with NAPSSites’ lackadaisical attitude when it comes to showing up for events. In his words; “When it comes to turning up for events NAPSSITES rarely turn up for events, I could remember vividly when we were persuading NAPSSITES for the study trip to the Oyo state House of Assembly, we even had to subsidise the amount to the sum of five hundred naira to increase the turn out for the events, yet we were only able to record about 56 students from the whole department. I understand that we’ve not organised a social event for NAPSSITES which is why we are trying as much as possible to reduce the intellectual and academic events for the NAPSS week and make it fulfilled and social as much as possible.
NAPSS week for the session will run from the 4th of March to 9th of March. It’s over to NAPSSites to attend the events and have as much fun as possible and the executive council to organise a memorable event for NAPSSites
