POSSPRESS INTERVIEW WITH NAPSS SPORTS DIRECTOR ASPIRANT, MR. SAMUEL OYAKHIRE EIMIAKHENA

By Joseph Etsevi

Mr. Samuel Oyakhire Eimiakhena, a 200-Level student of the Department of Political Science, is vying for the position of Sports Director.

POSSPRESS interviewed him to assess his understanding of the office, his proposed priorities and his approach to its responsibilities. He was asked to explain his plans and to answer questions on administration, accountability, communication and student representation.

The interview is meant to give NAPSSITES a clear picture of his priorities and approach, so they can judge how well his plans respond to the administrative and representational needs of the student body.

Good evening, Mr Samuel.

My name Joseph Etsevi from the POSSPRESS Organization. I am here to interview with you as regards to your political aspiration.

Okay SirYou have the floor

Thank you. Mr Samuel, if I may ask, why do you want to become the Sports Director of the NAPSS department, and what makes you believe that you are qualified for this position?

1. My interest for this position and Sports at large
2. I want to take the sporting activities of the department forward
3. I also want to ensure that NAPSSITES get more involved in sports cause the turn ups have been low in recent times
What makes me qualified is because I have laid my grounds in sporting related activities of the department already.
And outside the department too
I was the one in charge of the social media account for napss during the Seals Cup
I was also part of the Seals Cup Media Committee
I play a key role also in the 200L team too

Permit me to ask, do you have any practical experience or achievements you can present as evidence that are capable of managing the sporting affairs of NAPSSITES?

I do but one is from secondary school
I was a sport perfect then
I can send the certificate picture later on

Okay. Tell me, how would you ensure that inclusivity of NAPSSITES to represent the department would be based on merit rather than friendship, popularity, favouritism or “senior man” status?

Inclusivity of every NAPSSITES will be ensured through the indoor games
There are varieties of them like table tennis, scrabble, ludo chess and the likes
Since football won’t guarantee playing time for everyone
The indoor games will cause there are varieties of them

That is like a quite range of activities.

If the department is unable to provide adequate funding for sporting activities, how do you intend on executing your plans without necessarily imposing financial burdens on NAPSSITES?

Donations can be made from sponsors. But the activities on my manifesto will require little funding so there might be no need for that

What in the case that the department executive are pressurizing you to select an undeserving player or mismanages funds for personal reasons, how would you handle the aftermath of the situation?

Please can you make this clear enough?

How would handle a situation where the Executive council is trying to lobby you into selecting a player whose performances are below average or a player whose records shows he or she has issues with the team?

Well I and my sport committee won’t give an underserved award
Awards will be given to whom ever deserves it even if there’s external influence.
And for every competition a disciplinary committee will be put in place to curb malicious acts
And also the other executives will be ready to give reasons why they want a certain player to get an underserved award
If I and my committee don’t find it valid then our principles stands

What in the case that the department loses out on an important competition and majority are blaming you for poor initiative and leadership, how would you respond and what corrective measure do you intend to take?

So yeahhh. Lemme start by saying I will do all my possible best to avoid laspes in my administration
And if fingers are being thrown at me, then I will take advices from my sport committee as my Committee will consist of representatives from all levels so they should be able to give the right complaints and corrective measures to the complains of NAPSSITES at large

Given the academic demands of UI on students, how will you organize sporting activities to ensure that they promote participation without necessarily interfering with their academic requirements?

Okay yeahhhhhhhh
As for that most sporting competition and activities will come in the first semester as the first semester tends to have lesser academic work and other extra curricular events for students.
It’s only the HOD’S CUP and the indoor games competition that will be played in the second semester
The hod’s cup will cup very early in the second semester if time permits us by then
While the indoor games competition will take place during the NAPSS week as there will be less academic activities during that week

Okay then, Mr Samuel.

Beyond organizing competitions and purchasing sporting equipments, what unique contribution or initiative would you introduce to develop NAPSSITES with talents in sports, and how do you ensure that it continues after your time in office?

Yesss, firstly my development will be mainly on football
As stated in my manifesto, A Structured Female football Team
Training sessions will be put in place, friendly competition against other departments will also be put in place to ensure that the female team develop into a more stronger female football team.
Secondly, measures will be put in place to make sure that coaches of each levels organise football trainings that will help players who are below standard to develop and help those who are already on good track play better and friendly matches with other departments will also be put in place

As regards to the plans you have in mind, what measurable achievements or implementation should NAPSSITES be expecting from you, Mr Samuel, within your first 30 days in office? How do you plan on executing them?

Me and my committee members will take everything bit by bit, step by step but I’m. sure going to make the students of the department see my works within the first 30 days

One last question before we wrap up with the interview.

If you are elected and fail to deliver the major promises you stated so far, how should NAPSSITES hold you accountable and what consequences do you recommend should follow if you fail to honour your promises?

If I fail, as a result of my incompetency, I really can’t be a Judge in my own case but what ever punishment courtesy demands should be given to me

That would all for tonight, Mr. Samuel.

Thank you for your responses.

You’re welcome.
Thanks for keeping to time by the way
