A democracy devoid of accountability and transparency is illusory. All elected individuals in every democratic community is a servant to those that voted them into offices. To carry out the watch-dog role of the press, a correspondent of the POSSPress conducted an online interview with the Assistant General Secretary of the Department.
POSSPress: Good morning, Miss Azizah
Azizat: Good morning, Mr. Abideen.
POSSPress: How have been classes ?
Azizat: Pretty fine, and yours?
I hope the stress is not much being a finalist.
POSSPress: Things have been somehow tight here, however it’s not overwhelming
Azizat : Thank God for that.
POSSPress: Alright
POSSPress: Very quickly, how has been your performance so far in the rejuvenation team? I mean you as the AGS.
Azizat : It has been quite fine. In terms of working with the General Secretary, and other team members.
POSSPress: Alright
Azizat : Thank you.
POSSPress: One of the plans you presented to NAPSSITES was to ensure unity amongst the students, how far how you been able to do this?
Azizat: I have been able to achieve this by having an open approach interaction with majorly the Freshers and I am happy they seamlessly get along with other Napssites across all levels.
However, not up to my satisfaction yet.
POSSPress: Considering what you put here, I believe fresh students were not around when you made this promise, how about the stalites ?
Azizat: And I made the promise on behalf of them, are they not Napssites as well?
Base on the stalites’ case, that is where “not up to my satisfaction” comes in. However, I relate with them and I am accessible, however together with my people across the 3 levels that houses the stalites, we shall achieve the main process which I promised Napssites in my manifesto, which is the Political Sage.
POSSPress: Should we then say you used a whole semester to relate with only the fresh students?
Azizat: Do I say that?
POSSPress: I actually perceive it that way, I just need a clarification perhaps I didn’t get you right
Azizat : What don’t you understand exactly?
POSSPress: You made a conclusion earlier that you’d get across to other levels in the department, isn’t it?
Azizat : Yes, I did.
POSSPress: Good. Then I just asked if we should hold it that your focus in the first semester was basically the fresh students
Azizat: I didn’t focus on the freshmen alone, other levels were put into consideration. I did relate with freshmen *MAJORLY*, which I see as the starting point to get across to other levels in the department since they are new to the association.
This is what most of us lacked when I was a freshman as well.
POSSPress: Now I understand
Azizat : Thank you.
POSSPress: About this your last response, are you trying to say that the formal administration didn’t work on how to engage with the fresh students’ affairs?
Azizat: No, I did not, I just believe there is room for improvement.
POSSPress: So, you’ve been building on what you met ?
Azizat : Yes.
POSSPress: Alright
Azizat: Thank you
POSSPress: Now, it is one of your constitutional duties to assist the General Secretary especially when he’s around, have you ever acted on his behalf on any major task?
Azizat : Yes.
POSSPress: Could you share one experience with me?
Azizat : I have drawn up an agenda for the executive council on behalf of him.
I’ve sent out correspondence to the senate on behalf of him when he wasn’t available due to some reasons.
I do write letters on his behalf and when delegates the task to me.
POSSPress: This is great, madam AGS. So, how would you describe your relationship with him?
Azizat: Our relationship has been awesome so far. He took me like a sister on a personal interaction. And in the formal sense, he guided me through to be a better version with the utmost respect. Our relationship made me learn a lot from him as a leader. So, I will describe our relationship as a perfect and positive one.
