On the 21st of June 2024, the NAPSS Senate held its first sitting of the session to officially start the session. After swearing in of new senators, the Election of some principal officers and the inauguration of the standing committee, the highlight of the sitting was the Executive council presentation of the state of the association, the inauguration of the constitutional review committee and the budget for the Freshers orientation and Freshers vs Staylites match.
To present the state of the association, the Executive President, Adewumi Samuel seemed unaccustomed to the traditions of the House and showed up to the sitting dressed “inappropriately” and was thus denied speaking rights by the Chief Whip, Sen. Obi Sylvia. The Agenda of the House was restructured while the President left the sitting to dress appropriately.
On his return, Mr. Adewumi’s report on the state of the association revolved around the events the executive organ would be holding in the first semester. He also explained to the House that the budget for each event would be presented to the Senate when the events are close due to the instability of prices in the market. Events highlighted in his report include: Freshers welcome- which will be held in the 4th week, Congress- which will be held in the fifth week, Academic writing for finalists and 300lv students- during the 6th week, Leadership Lab- in the 8th week and Mentorship and tutorial programmes.
Still, on the podium, Mr. Adewumi also gave a breakdown of basic dues and packages. According to the President, NAPSSites will be paying a sum of three thousand Nara (#3,000) as basic dues for the session and with a population of two hundred and seventy- one students the association is expecting the total sum of eight hundred and thirteen thousand Naira (#813,000) in her coffers.
The basic dues serve as the primary source of funding for the association and the association’s activities will disrupted or nonexistent without the payment of basic dues. During his report, the President gave a breakdown of how the dues will be utilized;

However, while questioned on strategies the executive council would implement to ensure effective collection of dues, Mr Adewumi reeled out old strategies that have been employed in the past and failed. Nevertheless, the President “assumed” his administration would facilitate the collection of dues from at least 70% of NAPSSites.
Other notable events that took place during the plenary sitting borders around the budget for Freshers orientation, the budget for the staylites vs freshers match and the report on NAPSS TV from the office of the Public Relations Officer. The sum of twenty-three thousand one hundred Naira (#23,100) was approved for Fresher’s orientation while the sum of thirteen thousand Naira (13,000) was approved for the Freshers vs Staylites match.
