The Seals Cup Committee at the University of Ibadan has officially announced the commencement of registration for the 2026 edition of the highly anticipated Seals Cup, marking the return of one of the institution’s most prestigious football tournaments.
According to a statement released on Sunday, April 5, registration opened at 9:00 p.m. and will remain active until all available slots are filled. A total of 48 slots have been allocated for this year’s competition, comprising 32 teams for the men’s category and 16 teams for the women’s category.
The announcement, which was circulated via a flier on the Seals ’25 WhatsApp group, has already generated excitement across campus, signaling the imminent return of what is widely regarded as the crown jewel of the university’s football calendar.
Interested departments are required to pay a registration fee of ₦32,000 for the men’s tournament and ₦15,000 for the women’s tournament. This reflects a noticeable increase from the previous edition, where fees stood at ₦25,000 and ₦10,000 respectively. Despite the hike, participation demand is expected to remain high, given the tournament’s reputation for competitiveness, visibility, and entertainment.
The committee has emphasized the urgency of early registration, noting that slots will be filled strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. Historically, the Seals Cup registration process has closed quickly due to overwhelming interest from departments eager to compete.
