Remember ASUU called off its eight month old strike on the fourteenth day of October, 2022 on conditional terms after a series of litigation procedures. Last week, the office of the accountant general paid the lecturers half salaries through the IPPIS model as they were on strike for half of the month. This action confirms that the federal government is bent on its policy of No work, no pay, it poses a threat to the reopening of schools
In chain reaction, ASUU summoned its National Executive council to Abuja to decide shutting down the Universities again, this has caused many students across the federation anxiety and panic as they are afraid they may be sent out of classes again.
There are claims that the demands of the union have not been satisfactorily addressed, despite obeying court orders to resume classes, with the payment of half salaries through IPPIS, this action can only be said to trigger the union.
