The National Association of Political Science Students’, University of Ibadan on Wednesday 10th of July, conducted its bye-election to fill vacant executive posts.
The election followed a previous poll where students failed to contest for the roles of General Secretary and Financial Secretary, leaving the association executive seats incomplete.
The election precedes screening between two aspirants, Segun Victor Olowu, a 300-level student of the department vying for the post of General Secretary, and Jackson Confidence, a 200-level student of the department vying for the post of Financial Secretary. The screening result revealed Victor Olowu scored 71% while Jackson Confidence came out with the result of 68%.
Following the screening exercise, the department electoral body proceeded to conduct the election through the use of an online form which indicates that voters are to vote for their candidate by clicking on the link and choosing Olowu Victor as General Secretary and Jackson Confidence as Financial Secretary to fill the vacant positions in the executive council as the General Secretary and Financial Secretary respectively.
The election saw a low turnout, with only 25 students demonstrating their interest in the candidates. The newly elected executive members are expected to fill the vacuum in the association’s leadership, ensuring the continuation of NAPSS UI’s activities and programs
Segun Victor Olowu with a total vote cast of 23 votes and 2 undecided votes emerged as the new General Secretary of the association. While, Jackson Confidence vying for the post of Financial Secretary emerged as the new Fin. Sec of the association with a total vote of 25 with no number of Undecided votes.
