The Nigerian Association of Political Science Students (NAPPS), University of Ibadan, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, held its executive handover ceremony to mark the transition from the outgoing administration to a new set of student leaders for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The ceremony was attended by the Head of Department, Prof. Yagboyaju; Dr. Godwin; members of the outgoing and incoming executives; the Senate President and members of the legislative house of the association; as well as representatives of the press.
In his opening remarks, the Head of Department congratulated the graduating students and welcomed the newly elected executives. He commended the outgoing administration for their service to the association.
The major highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the oath of office to the newly elected executives. The oath was conducted by Dr. Godwin, after which the newly elected officers read the oath and appended their signatures to officially assume office.
During his valedictory speech, the outgoing President, Adeoti Adebare Mubarak, reflected on the achievements recorded during his administration. He advised the incoming president and his team to remain focused and demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility while serving the association.
Adebare also presented the NAPPS Administrative Assessment Document to the Head of Department. The document detailed the activities and achievements of his administration and serves as a record to guide future administrations.
In addition, he recommended that the Freshers’ Essay Competition, which was introduced during his tenure, be renamed in honour of the late Professor Aituaje Irene Pogoson in recognition of her contributions to the development of the association and her motherly support to students.
As part of his administration’s legacy projects, Adebare also presented newly acquired equipment, including a Public Address System and a projector, to the association.
In his inaugural address, the newly sworn-in President, Victor Oladigbo Inioluwa, pledged his commitment to building on the foundation laid by previous administrations. He assured members that his leadership would prioritise continuity, responsibility, and the advancement of the association.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Yagboyaju congratulated the outgoing executives for their academic excellence and administrative success, stating that the department is proud of their achievements.
He encouraged the new administration, led by Inioluwa, to emulate the dedication of the previous leadership and strive to surpass their accomplishments. He also urged them to remain faithful to the oath of office they had taken.
The Head of Department further warned the new executives against the temptation of financial mismanagement. He emphasized that accountability and integrity are essential to a successful administration. “On no account should students report missing funds,” he said, while emphasising the importance of transparency in leadership.
