POSSPRESS: Hello. First of, can you succinctly introduce yourself?
Bariwhite: I am Ayomide Bariwhite. I am a final-year student in the Department of Political Science. I am the Governor of my class (a position I have held since 100 level).
POSSPRESS: Wow. Thank you for having me once again
POSSPRESS: How has been your experience in Political Science, UI coupled with your role as a course rep in your level?
Bariwhite: My experience in UI has been punctuated by the wonderful people that I have met, the memories we have had, and how our meeting has shaped my perspective on a plethora of issues.
Being the Class Rep has been a huge opportunity for me to gain relevant leadership experience, learn how to manage people, cope under pressure, communicate efficiently with people, and persuade others even during difficult situations.
POSSPRESS: How have you been able to combine your academics with your role as a class representative.
Bariwhite: That has not been coming so easily. I learned to manage my time, plan, and delegate. Most of all, I have learned to discipline myself. But I must say that it has not been really easy. Especially in 100 level where I was dealing with over 700 students across various departments and Faculties. But I thank God.
POSSPRESS: Wow! This was very insightful.
POSSPRESS: From your wealth of experiences, what can you say about leadership in the department?
Bariwhite: Leadership in the department generally? Or my role in it?
POSSPRESS: Generally ?
Bariwhite: Well, the leadership in the department when I was at 100 level was probably the most efficient apart from the current administration (which has started greatly with tremendous projects and innovations to put the departmental Association on the pedestal of development).
POSSPRESS: Thanks for availing me this opportunity.
POSSPRESS: How would you rank the leadership at the department? within the scale of (10-100%)
Bariwhite: It is difficult to give a proper evaluation of the current administration at this time. I think it is rather too early. But I must say that the administration has started on a good note. Its custodian is also continually motivated and confident by how much his administration can achieve if all the members of the team are committed to the success of the administration.
POSSPRESS: Thanks for airing your worldview on this sir.
POSSPRESS: Lastly, In your view, what are the key qualities of a good leader.
Bariwhite: This is very subjective.
POSSPRESS: I know it is ,what can you say about that?
Bariwhite: These qualities include: openness of mind, discipline, ability to communicate effectively, perseverance, integrity, selflessness, loving those under your watch, endurance, being a worthy example to others, sound mind, politeness, proactiveness, critical thinking, ability to coordinate and mostly of all, the ability to sublimate one’s emotional impulses when making a critical decision.
POSSPRESS: Thank you very much. It’s a great privilege having you today.
