BY: OLATOYE TEMILOLUWA

INTERVIEWER: It is a pleasure to have you with me for this interview. Please state your name and your position.

PRESIDENT: Good evening, my name is Johnson Victor Oluwatobi and I’m serving as the NAPSS President

INTERVIEWER: As the President of the Department, What are your hopes and expectations for the new session, both academically and socially?

PRESIDENT: Okay, Thank you.

For NAPSS in this particular session, I actually have a lot of high hopes of things getting much better. Carefully looking at the energy and the zeal of my team members, the incoming freshers, and the trust that NAPSSites have in me, I can surely affirm that things are definitely going to turn out well.

So I am expecting an increased performance when it comes to academics, and we have been working together with the Freshers and other levels representatives to ensure this.

Furthermore, when it comes to social life, I am very optimistic that NAPSSITES are in for a wonderful ride because we have plans for both the academics and the social life of the members of the association.

INTERVIEWER: Plans for NAPSSITES …Can you run us through this?

What are your plans to improve the academic performance of students in the political science department?

PRESIDENT: Okay, so when it comes to academics, we are already putting our plans into motion.

We have already launched the NAPSS E-Library, which is a go-to place for all NAPSSITES to get materials for study and we will keep improving it, we have a team of custodians, that are working together with us on that.

Also, we detected that what affected some students last session was the wrong choice of courses, so we had meetings with the current Freshmen to see that they didn’t make that mistake too, and we have further open up to all levels and readily available to meet with the various levels on this too.

Furthermore, Tutorials were supposed to start this week, but that was not possible again because lectures have not fully started yet, but by next week, the tutorials are going to start fully.

This session tutorial is going to be very special, as we are collaborating at the faculty level to see its effectiveness.

INTERVIEWER: Great. Now to the social plans, How do you plan to promote student engagement and activities in the department?

PRESIDENT: OK, so when it comes to social life, I am also very optimistic that our plans will turn out well, and part of our plan is to organize events that will be awesome which NAPSSITES, can be proud of.

The NAPSS Family gathering will be coming up very soon, We will communicate the date ahead and this will also go in line with the Fresher’s welcome.

We also have a lineup of other events, and once we are able to get solid arrangements, we will surely communicate the date on time.

INTERVIEWER: What are the freshers’ expectations for the Freshers’ welcome and other activities planned by the executives?

PRESIDENT: For the Fresher’s welcome, we are planning a 2-day event, and it is definitely going to be a superb one, there is going to be Sporting activities,, and the orientation is going to take a new form to consolidate the one that the Department has organized before.  We should have a special program for the literary and debate club as well.

As pertains to our other plans, we are going to be having a program on September 22, it is a training session on Project Writing. We will also likely be having certification training very soon, as well as a Virtual program on October 1st in conjunction with other schools.

We will surely release more details as time goes on.

INTERVIEWER: How will you ensure that your initiatives are successful, given the limited resources and time available?

PRESIDENT: Okay, we have various mechanisms in place to ensure that we are able to achieve all our goals, and part of why we are doing this is to partner with organizations with the same goal and find ways to achieve our goals.

For those that we can’t really partner with, we are on the lookout for the most efficacious way to make them possible.

With the issue of timing, we have planned out programs in a way that they fit into the school calendar, and also fit into the days that are absolutely free for NAPSSITES at all levels.

INTERVIEWER: Can you share more about the timing and structure to do all the things stated in your manifesto? Particularly the stakeholders forum and the quarterly assessments.

PRESIDENT: Okay, so on the Stakeholders Forum as we promised, I have created a WhatsApp group for that, and the Stakeholders are fully added.

So we will be having a  meeting soon on some important things. Although I had a meeting with the Class Representatives and their Assistants some weeks ago regarding some events that we planned for.

But the full stakeholder meeting will come up very soon.

As regards the Quarterly assessment, it will surely come up after the first quarter and that will be by December. But as I have promised, there will be post-event assessments from time to time.

INTERVIEWER: That will be all for now. Thank you for your time

PRESIDENT: Thank you.
