Election is considered the heart of democracy since it allows for representation, peaceful transfer of power, accountability of the leaders, legitimacy and popular sovereignty. Election is a crucial element in the political realm to provide an avenue for the electorates to make decisions on who to represent them.
It’s that time of the session when students are saddled with the responsibility to choose their representatives ahead of the next session. The National Association of Political Science Students, UI chapter decides today! After a series of campaign activities, the electoral screening, the press night and the manifesto night. The election day is finally here.
NAPSSIEC which is in charge of all activities concerning the election and electoral process announced it’s the election O’ clock in the early hours of Thursday. According to NAPSSIEC, the election kicked off at 8am and will end by 3pm. It’s a virtual election and emails with voting details have been sent to accredited voters.
In an interview with the NAPSSIEC Chairman, about how the election is going, he replied, “Voters have been receiving mails as early as 6am and voting commenced at 8am, the turn up right now isn’t encouraging but we hope for the best. Electopoll would arrive here by 10am, we’ll then set up a venue for physical voting. So far we’ve been receiving votes but the turnout isn’t as expected.
