In the realm of politics, pivotal moments often shape the course of governance and set the tone for future endeavors. The press played a crucial role in witnessing a significant event in Oyo State’s political landscape as Governor Seyi Makinde unveiled his selection for commissioners on Tuesday.
The governor’s list of nominees for commissioners included Messrs Seun Asamu and Akinola Ojo, who were Commissioners for Energy and Finance respectively during Governor Makinde’s first tenure. Other nominees were Mrs Fausat Sanni and Prof. Daud Sangodoyin, both former Commissioners for Women Affairs and Public Works and Transport respectively. Also mentioned were former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof. Musbau Babatunde and his Agriculture and Rural Development counterpart, Mr Adeniyi Adebisi. Mrs Toyin Balogun, who was Governor Makinde’s Women Mobilisation Director in the last general elections, also made the list.
Prof. Kehinde Sangodoyin, Barrister Temilolu Ashamu, Mrs Fausat Ajoke, and Mr Akinola Ojo, underwent a meticulous screening process by the House of Assembly to ensure that only the most capable candidates would be entrusted with these responsibilities.
The House of Assembly expressed appreciation for the governor’s careful selection of commissioners who have demonstrated their commitment to public service and shown potential for making significant contributions to the development and governance of Oyo State.
The Oyo State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed five of the seven commissioners designate, while Prof. Musibau Babatunde and Mrs Toyin Balogun were not screened due to absence. The decision came after a motion filed by Hon. Gbenga Adekola of the Atiba Constituency and seconded by Hon. Olajide Akintunde of the Lagelu Constituency.
