The University of Ibadan (UI), Nigeria’s Premier University, has emerged as the leading Nigerian institution in the July 2026 Webometrics Global Ranking of Universities.
According to the ranking data published in July 2026, a total of 32,148 universities and higher education institutions were assessed globally. UI placed 1,291st in the world and first in Nigeria, while the University of Lagos (UNILAG) ranked 1,355th globally and second in Nigeria.
The latest ranking, as reported by Punch Newspaper and other reputable Nigerian media, highlights the strong digital presence, visibility, and research impact of the institution on the global academic platform.
Other universities in Nigeria’s top five include the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, which secured third place nationally and 1,397th globally; Covenant University, Ota, ranked fourth in Nigeria and 1,522nd globally; and Landmark University, completing the top five at 1,659th globally.
The Webometrics ranking assesses universities largely through indicators related to their web presence, visibility, and research influence, providing an international perspective on the digital and academic footprints of higher institutions.
